Creating your account

The gist

Head to sign up and fill in your first name, last name, email, and a password (or use Sign up with Google). Once you submit, you'll walk through a short setup where you tell us whether you're a job seeker or an employer. When that's done, you're in.

Step by step

Sign up with an email and password

Go to the sign up page.
Fill in your details. First name, last name, email, a password, then confirm the password.
Click Sign Up. If that email is already in use, you'll see a note and an offer to log in instead. If anything else needs fixing (passwords that don't match, a too-short password), we'll flag it right on the field.
Start the walkthrough. You'll pick your account type next.

Sign up with Google

Go to the sign up page.
Click Sign up with Google. A Google window opens and signs you in.
Say yes. Once you're signed in to Google, you're back here.
Start the walkthrough. It's the same from here as the email path.

If you sign up with Google, you won't have a separate password here. You'll sign in through Google from now on. See Resetting your password for what that means.

The setup walkthrough

The first question is the same for everyone: Which best describes you? Choose Job seeker or Employer. What comes next depends on your answer.

If you're a job seeker

A few more steps, each on its own page:

Build your profile with your name, location, and a bit about you.
Choose your avatar, either uploaded or picked from a set.
Share your career journey, where you are right now (just entering climate, switching from another industry, or looking for your next role).
Add your skills, the climate-relevant ones you have. These help us match you to roles.
Write your goals, what you're looking for. This shapes what we show on your Home.
Add your work experience (optional). You can skip this and add it later from your profile.

Every step has Back and Next, and you can leave and come back whenever. Your progress is saved.

If you're an employer

Two more steps:

Build your company workspace with your company name, description, website, location, and the pathway your company works in.
Finish your account setup, which wraps up the workspace.

After that you land on your Canopy home, ready to set up your branding (logo, banner, brand color), post roles, and invite teammates if you're hiring together. See Managing your team.

What happens after the walkthrough

Job seekers land on your Home. From there, open Jobs to browse, Treehouse for pathway guides and mentors, or Profile to keep telling your story.
Employers land on your Canopy home. From there, open Roles to post your first one, Candidates when applications arrive, or Settings to finish your company profile and branding.

Good to know

About passwords at sign-up. You'll need at least 8 characters. The reset-password flow later asks for at least 12, so if you choose something 12 or longer now, you won't run into a length bump later. We don't require a specific mix of uppercase, numbers, or symbols, but pick something strong and keep it in a password manager.
Your email is your identity, so use one you'll keep. You can change it later from settings (change your email for job seekers, or change your email for employers). We'll ask you to confirm a link we send to the new address.
One account, one side. You choose job seeker or employer during setup. Switching later isn't something you can do on your own, so reach out to support if you need it.
Google sign-ups don't have a password. If you signed up with Google, that's how you'll sign in. There's nothing to reset, because there's no password to begin with.
You can skip the optional steps. Work experience, goals, and skills all help, but none of them block you. Add them later from your profile or Treehouse.
No email to confirm before you start. You can use your account right away. We don't lock things behind a confirm-your-email click.

Trouble signing up?

"Email already exists." Log in instead, or reset your password if you don't remember it.
"Passwords do not match." The password and confirm-password fields need to match exactly.
"Password must be at least 8 characters." Pick something longer (8 to 32 characters).
The Google window didn't open. Your browser probably blocked it. Allow pop-ups for greenjobsboard.us and try again.
Something went wrong with Google sign-in. Try the email and password option instead, or refresh and give Google another go.
