How to find and apply for jobs

Browse, filter, and apply. Read the role, fill in a short form, and hit submit. Your draft saves as you type.

The short version

Open Jobs from your sidebar and filter down to what you want. Click into a role to read it, then hit Apply Now. You'll land on a short application form: add your resume, fill in a few sections about you and your career, answer any questions the employer added, and submit. Your draft saves as you go, and the role shows up in Your Jobs under "Applied" the moment you send it.

Step by step

  1. Open Jobs. Click Jobs in the sidebar, or browse jobs if you're not signed in. The newest roles come first.
  2. Filter to what you want. Search by title or company, and narrow with six filters: - Date Posted (any time, past 24 hours, past week, past month) - Workplace (remote, hybrid, on-site) - Experience (entry level, mid level, senior level, executive) - Pathways (pick from the 21 climate pathways) - Salary ($50k+, $75k+, $100k+, $150k+) - BIPOC Owned (show only BIPOC-owned employers)

The filters you've turned on show as little tags above the results, so you can clear them one at a time or all at once. Recent searches stay saved in your browser, even when you're signed out. 1. Open a role. Click any job card to open the job page. It has the role description, responsibilities, what's required versus nice to have, benefits, the closing date, the hiring steps (if the employer shared them), and the company's own colors, mission, and banner. 1. Save it for later (optional). Tap the bookmark icon on the card or the job page. Saved roles wait for you in Your Jobs under "Saved". 1. Click Apply Now. You'll see the Apply Now button both inline and in the bar pinned to the bottom of the page. If the employer chose to take applications on their own site, Apply Now opens their site in a new tab. Otherwise it takes you to the application form. 1. Fill out the application. The form is split into sections you can jump between using the list on the right: - Resume (if the employer asks for one, the upload area sits at the top; drag a file in or click to choose one, and we take PDF, Word, or an image) - About you (name, email, pronouns, location, and date of birth if it's asked for) - Career (your work history, years of experience, LinkedIn, and a portfolio link; anything already saved to your profile fills in automatically so you're not retyping it) - Documents (any extra files the role needs, like a cover letter or portfolio, each with its own upload area) - Questions (anything the employer added: a short answer, yes or no, a single choice, several choices, or a file; the required ones are marked) - Submit (agree to the consent statement and click Submit Application)

A banner at the top of the form shows when your draft last saved, and there's a Save draft button right next to it. If you try to submit with something missing, a message at the top tells you how many fields still need attention, and you can scroll to each highlighted one to fix it. 1. Submit. You'll see an "Application Submitted!" page that walks you through what happens next.

What happens after you submit

  • The role lands in Your Jobs under "Applied" right away.
  • You get a confirmation email within a few minutes.
  • Most employers reply within 5 to 7 days. Some take a little longer.
  • When you hear back (an interview invite, a no, or an offer), move the role to its new stage in Your Jobs yourself. We don't pull updates from the employer.
  • You can add a quick reaction or star a role from the same list to keep your own notes.

Editing, withdrawing, and re-applying

  • You can't edit an application after you send it. Give it a once-over before you submit. For a serious mistake, reach out to the employer directly using the contact details on the role.
  • You can't withdraw through Green Jobs Board. Contact the employer directly if you need to pull out.
  • Whether you can re-apply is up to the employer. If the closing date hasn't passed and they accept second applications, you can apply again. If not, get in touch with them.
  • Applications you send on an employer's own site won't show up automatically. When Apply Now opens their site, we have no way to know whether you finished on their end. Save the role to Your Jobs yourself so you can still track it.

The stages in Your Jobs

There are seven stages, in order:

  1. Saved (bookmarked, not applied to yet)
  2. Applied (sent, waiting on the employer)
  3. Interviewing (you're in the interview process)
  4. Offers (you've received an offer)
  5. Hired (you accepted and started)
  6. Past Roles (closed out without an offer, whether you were turned down, withdrew, or the role closed)
  7. Ineligible (you were screened out for something like location or work authorization)

You move roles between stages yourself using the stage control on each row. Each role keeps its own card, reaction, and notes as it moves.

Uploading files

  • Resume. Needed when the employer asks for one. We take PDF, Word, or an image. The upload area sits at the top of the application, and you can also reuse the resume saved to your profile.
  • Extra documents. Cover letter, portfolio, writing samples, code samples, whatever the role asks for. Each gets its own upload area in the Documents section.
  • Question files. Some employers ask for a file as part of a question. It works the same way: drag a file in or click to upload.
  • Your files stay private. Only the employer who posted the role you applied to can see the files you upload there. No one else can.

If something goes wrong

  • A field is missing. Look for the message at the top of the form. It names how many fields need attention, and you can scroll to each highlighted one.
  • The submission didn't go through. You'll see a message with what went wrong. Check your connection and try again. Your draft is safe.
  • A file wouldn't upload. The upload area shows what happened. Try a smaller file or a different format (PDF tends to be the most reliable), or give it another go in a moment.
  • The role closes while you're applying. If the closing date passes mid-application, you'll see a message when you try to submit. Reach out to the employer directly if you'd still like them to consider you.

Good to know

  • No account needed to look around. You can browse and filter freely. You'll just need an account to save a role or apply.
  • Your draft saves as you type. The Save draft button is there if you want to force a save before closing. Drafts are tied to your account, so they follow you from one device to another.
  • Your profile saves you time. Once you've added your resume, LinkedIn, portfolio, or work history to your profile, those details fill in on every application.
  • Every form is a little different. Employers decide which fields are required, optional, or hidden. Required ones are marked with an asterisk.
  • Twelve jobs per page. Your filters and sort order carry across pages.
  • Saved jobs don't expire. They stay in Your Jobs under "Saved" until you apply or remove them. If the role closes, the card sticks around but Apply Now goes away.
  • Pronouns are optional. Share them, skip them, or choose "Prefer not to say". Employers see whatever you pick.
  • It all works on a phone. Browsing, filtering, applying, and uploading all work on mobile, and your draft still saves.
  • Each role shows the employer's brand. Their color, banner, mission, and hiring steps are all theirs to set. The application itself stays the same shape underneath.
