For job seekers

Getting found by employers

Climate employers can search for candidates, but only if you opt in. Turn on discovery, say what you're looking for, and add your skills. You're private by default, and your email and phone are never shared.

The short version

By default, no employer can find you. When you're ready to be discovered, open Sharing & visibility settings and choose who can find you. Then fill in your availability, what you're looking for, and your skills on your profile, so the right employers reach out about the right roles. You stay in control the whole way, and you can switch it off anytime.

You're private until you choose otherwise

A new profile is completely private. You won't turn up in any employer's search until you say so. So being found is something you switch on, not something you have to switch off.

Choose who can find you

Open Sharing & visibility settings and find Discoverable in candidate search, under Employers. There are three choices:

  • Off. The default. Only you can see your availability and what you're looking for. No employer can find you.
  • Employers. Verified climate employers can find you when they search for candidates.
  • Everyone. Anyone who can search for candidates can find you. Candidate search is an employer tool today, so this reaches the same people as Employers.

If you want to be found, Employers is the one to pick. Change it whenever you like.

Discovery is separate from your public link. Turning on discovery does not publish a page on the open web, and turning on your public link does not put you in employer search. Each is its own switch on this page.

What makes you easy to find

Once you're discoverable, a few parts of your profile do the work. Fill them in on your profile:

  • Your availability. Set it to "Actively looking," "Open to work," or "Not looking right now." Employers can filter by this, so it's the single most useful signal. The editor even reminds you: "Let employers know where you stand. You control who can see this in privacy settings."
  • What you're looking for. The kinds of roles (full-time, part-time, contract, internship, temporary), your work setting (remote, hybrid, on-site), when you can start, and whether you're open to relocating.
  • Your skills. Employers search by skill, and when your skills line up with a role, you rise to the top of their results. Honest, specific climate skills matter more than a long list. Building your job-seeker profile goes deeper on skills.
  • Your pathway interests. The climate pathways you want to work in, so employers in those areas find you.

The fuller these are, the more often you'll surface for the right search, with the right context attached.

What an employer sees, and what they don't

When an employer finds you, they see your professional picture: your name, photo, current title, location (city and state), years of experience, skills, pathway interests, work history, your summary, your "why climate," and what you're looking for.

Here's the part worth knowing:

Employers never see your email address or phone number in search, no matter your settings. There's no way for them to pull your contact details from discovery. Reaching you happens through the platform, on your terms.

Your voluntary disclosures (the optional questions about your background) are never shown next to your name either. Employers only ever see anonymized totals, and only once enough people have answered, so your individual answers stay private to you.

By default, employers see only the professional links you've added, your LinkedIn and your personal website. Your Instagram, Facebook, and X stay private.

If you'd like employers to see those too, open Sharing & visibility settings and turn on Show my socials to employers, under Employers. The setting spells it out: "Instagram, Facebook, and X. LinkedIn and your website are always shown."

Step by step: make yourself discoverable

  1. Open Sharing & visibility settings and set Discoverable in candidate search to "Employers."
  2. On your profile, set your availability.
  3. Fill in what you're looking for: role types, work setting, timing, relocation.
  4. Add your skills and pathway interests.
  5. That's it. You'll start showing up for employers whose searches match.

Good to know

  • Private by default. You're never in search until you opt in, and switching back to "Off" takes you out again.
  • No contact details, ever. Email and phone are never part of what employers can see or search.
  • Availability is the big lever. Even if the rest is thin, setting "Actively looking" or "Open to work" helps the right employers find you.
  • Being discoverable is separate from applying. You can apply to roles whether or not you're discoverable. Discovery is just the other direction: employers finding you.
  • Your public link is a separate switch. If you want a link to send around, turn on Public profile under "Your public link" on the same page. You can be discoverable without a public link, or the other way round.

Trouble?

  • You don't think employers can see you. Check that Discoverable in candidate search isn't set to "Off" in Sharing & visibility settings.
  • Your shared profile link shows "not found." That link needs Public profile switched on, under "Your public link" on the same page. It's a separate setting from discovery.
  • You want to disappear from search. Set Discoverable in candidate search back to "Off." You're out right away.
