Position Overview

The Social Media Associate plays a key role in amplifying One Earth’s mission across social platforms by creating, publishing, and managing engaging climate and nature-focused content. This role supports day-to-day social media execution while collaborating closely with the Digital Media Director and broader communications and development teams.

The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and mission-driven, with a strong instinct for visual storytelling, clarity, and consistency. They are excited by climate and nature content and understand how social platforms can inspire learning, connection, and action.


Key Responsibilities


Content Creation & Publishing

  • Create and schedule social media posts across platforms, including: Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, and BlueSky
  • Adapt One Earth content—including articles, graphics, videos, and campaigns—into platform-appropriate formats
  • Write clear, engaging captions that align with One Earth’s voice and mission


Community Engagement

  • Monitor comments, messages, and mentions, responding or flagging as appropriate
  • Help foster a positive, informed, and inclusive online community
  • Track relevant climate, conservation, and biodiversity conversations


Content Coordination & Support

  • Support content calendars and campaign rollouts in coordination with the Digital Communications team
  • Assist with asset organization, tagging, and basic content optimization
  • Collaborate with designers, writers, and program staff to ensure accuracy and alignment


Analytics & Optimization

  • Track basic social media metrics (engagement, reach, follower growth)
  • Help identify content trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Support reporting and insights for internal reviews and campaigns


Qualifications


Required

  • 2–4 years of experience managing or supporting social media for a nonprofit, brand, or mission-driven organization
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to tone and clarity
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and scheduling tools such as Sprout Social
  • Basic understanding of analytics and performance metrics
  • Strong organizational skills and reliability with deadlines
  • Passion  for climate, biodiversity, sustainability, regenerative agriculture, and/or environmental justice


Preferred

  • Experience creating or editing simple graphics and short-form video (e.g., Canva, Adobe tools, native platform tools)
  • Experience working with content calendars or campaigns
  • Familiarity with accessibility best practices (alt text, captions, inclusive language)
  • Comfortability in front of the camera/mic to be a face and/or voice of One Earth on social media
  • Experience with creating content that is culturally responsive and engaging
