What You’ll Do
The Grassroots Community Coordinator will work with community- and faith-based organizations to strengthen community projects that address the triple bottom line, with emphasis on local food access, economic development and the environment. Community projects include, but are not limited to, local food access and education, youth and elder programming, cultural heritage and more. The Coordinator will support community organizations by preparing them for small grant support, providing training and technical assistance, and connecting them to additional resources. The Coordinator will spend the majority of their time providing one- on-one technical assistance to community-based organizations in rural North Carolina, assisting with both project-related and organizational development support. The Coordinator will work independently and with team members to develop and deliver workshops and trainings that Resourceful Communities hosts regularly and to support community-based organizations on a range of topics and themes pertinent to faith-based groups and community-based organizations.
The position is based out of the Resourceful Communities office; and in-office work is required at least two days a week. Regular travel in NC is required; mileage reimbursement/car rental for travel and lodging (as needed) will be provided. This position is grant supported and is subject to funding availability. Office space and laptop provided.
Your Primary Responsibilities
Project-Based Technical Assistance to Faith-Based and Community-Based Organizations (FBOs/CBOs)- Assess individual organizations’ programmatic and organizational needs; develop and execute mutually agreed upon technical assistance training goals, benchmarks, timeline and responsibilities for RC and technical assistance recipients, with clear connection to RC program deliverables and goals
- Provide tailored technical assistance to strengthen individual organization’s programs and projects. This support may include helping build skills in: community outreach, program design, project planning, development of evaluation plans, grant writing, etc
- Provide tailored technical assistance to strengthen individual organizational best practices
- Evaluate progress on technical assistance provision (midway and upon completion) and provide updates to RC technical assistance recipients and RC team members on a regular basis
- Connect FBOs and CBOs to peer organizations and resource agencies to strengthen their community programming, promote collaboration, or replication of successful approaches
- Perform outreach; develop and deliver presentations highlighting program approaches, initiative goals, etc. to increase network participation.
- Conduct outreach and prepare potential grantees to apply for and successfully carry out projects funded through our small grants program.
- Support RC team in small grant review, decision-making and grant administration activities
- Trainings & Workshops
- Work with the RC team to develop content for and deliver/facilitate six to ten trainings/workshops each year. Training topics include, but are not limited to, community engagement, partnership building, project development and topics focused on social determinants of health
- Resourceful Communities Administration
- Participate in RC meetings as required
- Participate in RC’s annual small grants program review
- Contribute to RC’s social media posts

- Comply with all LWG’s systems and policies including, but not limited to, time tracking, credits card expense reporting, reimbursement requests, and other organizational requirements

- Two to five years’ experience working in and/or providing training/technical assistance to nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations and/or community-based organizations on organizational development and projects
- Knowledge of capacity building topics, including project management and evaluation, partnership building/collaboration and other community-centered skillsets
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders
- Understanding of, and experience with, issues affecting limited-resource and rural communities and communities of color, including economic development, social justice, environmental issues and limited access to resources and opportunities
- Bringing vision to life by co-creating goals and driving disciplined, focused execution
- Communicating candidly and compassionately, keeping messages clear, timely, and accessible
- Embracing distributed leadership, stepping up while creating space for others to contribute and collaborate
- Channeling systems thinking by connecting perspectives to make sense of complexity

Preferred knowledge, skills and experience include:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Knowledge of popular education, adult learning and experiential training techniques
- Familiarity with resources in North Carolina that support effective programming in rural communities, including funding, training and curriculum
