Job Description

BrightAction Communities

BrightAction Communities (BAC) is on a mission to help communities take action on climate change by making it easy for community members to learn about climate solutions and take action in their home and beyond. Over 40% of U.S. emissions come from 5 everyday household activities where we have the power to make a difference on climate change today. We have solutions for all these activities that also save money, improve health and create local jobs.

BAC is a non-profit that provides cities, counties and non-profit community based organizations across the U.S. custom online and program tools to drive community engagement on climate solutions. Our online BrightAction platform makes it simple, easy, and fun for residents to learn about solutions, take action, and track progress. We help with how-to guides, estimates on financial savings and climate impact and connect residents to work together. At BAC, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact in creating a safer, healthier future and a better today.

The Opportunity

The mission of our Community Engagement and Program Manager is to support our communities in using our program to drive climate solutions engagement. In some communities this will be direct outreach and engagement with community members, and in others it will be supporting and coaching local engagement staff.  You will work closely with our communities to understand their goals, needs, and challenges, and then develop the best plan for organizing and engagement in their communities. You are part coach and part project manager, focused on helping our communities achieve their goals. This role reports to the President of BAC.

What you will do:

  • Learn about each community's goals and unique culture and help them design and develop successful community engagement plans including goals, metrics, engagement strategies, and timelines.
  • Coach and train communities on platform features and functionality as well as best practices in community engagement.
  • For communities where BAC provides direct engagement:
    • Research and use existing networks and city partner staff recommendations to identify contacts.
    • Initiate personalized outreach via email, phone calls, and meetings to establish connections with key stakeholders in schools, faith-based organizations, and community-based groups.
    • Build and nurture relationships with individuals and organizations to encourage, facilitate and support the use of the BrightAction Communities program.
    • Develop local volunteer leaders to help expand the reach and engagement in the community.
    • Organize and support local events to expand participation and engagement.
  • Help develop outreach and marketing materials and effective communication campaigns with strategies tailored to specific local community culture and demographics.
  • Develop presentations and materials to support engagement.
  • Track key metrics for community programs including outreach, engagement and participation rates. Identify new opportunities and provide recommendations to enhance and improve programs.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of work experience in Community Engagement and Project Management.
  • Strong communication skills and a deep understanding of communication strategies, with a passion for building trust and effectively engaging a broad range of stakeholders—from senior city staff and community leaders to diverse community members and groups.
  • Experience in outreach, relationship building, and developing high-touch nurture campaigns.
  • Passionate about empowering people and communities on climate change solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to track and report on performance metrics and use data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and event participation.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in another language (ie Spanish) is a plus.
  • Ability to work from home/remote required.

Full-time, remote position with benefits. BrightAction Communities is mission driven and has a positive work environment and creative, collaborative team.  BAC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.  Women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.  Email info@bacommunities.org with resume and cover letter to apply.
