Job Description

Rocky Mountain Youth Corps engages young people in the outdoors, inspiring them to use their strengths and potential to lead healthy, productive lives. RMYC offers a diverse set of skills and training opportunities including trail work, environmental restoration, historic preservation, wildlife habitat management, invasive species management, wildland fire, and more within land management and natural resource fields. Our program is designed to engage youth and young adults in valuable work experiences within natural resources and land management. The experience can vary from backpacking to remote locations to build a bridge to surveying invasive species in a wildland fire burn scar. One day you might help build a campground and the next you could be blazing a new trail in the wilderness. Expect to spend a ton of time camping outdoors, hiking, and exploring Northwest Colorado’s natural beauty on your weekends with your fellow crew members as well!

Conservation Crews
Being part of a Conservation Crew involves spending a season living and working with a team of 8-10 people in a camping environment, completing meaningful conservation projects during the week, and exploring the beautiful outdoor spaces of the Rocky Mountains on the weekends.
During the summer season, crews will remain together 24/7 in the field either on project or doing weekend recreational travel and activities. Food, travel expenses, laundry, and showers will be paid for by RMYC. Fall season crews travel to projects, work and camp together 5-9 days at a time, and then return to the office and be off for 2-5 days at a time. Some projects/logistics may require crews to operate in a 24/7 setting summer model for a portion of the fall. During off time, you are responsible for your own food and lodging.

Hybrid Conservation/Disaster Relief Crew
The Conservation and Disaster Relief Crew serves dual purposes: supporting conservation projects and responding to natural disasters in partnership with the AmeriCorps Disaster Response Team. While not deployed, the crew functions as a Hybrid Conservation Crew taking on projects similar to those of the Conservation Crew with potential for more climate-focused and chainsaw-based projects. When called, they assist in disaster recovery efforts across the U.S. and its territories. This crew is on-call for disaster deployment, which typically lasts 30 days and offers an additional stipend. Deployments involve intensive tasks such as mucking and gutting homes, mold remediation, debris removal, and supply distribution. The schedule during disaster work is demanding, with 60-hour weeks common. Crews still receive food, accommodations, and essential services, though specifics may vary by assignment. Deployment is generally more likely during the fall season.
